Scope and content Clyde W. Gore of Whiteville, N.C. was employed by the British-American Tobacco Company as an agent in China. He landed in Shanghai in August 1937 and remained there until 1941. At the end of World War II he returned to China where he worked until 1949. Gore describes his experiences in Shanghai and in the interior of China. The tobacco trade, dealings with the Japanese, communism, and life in China are all topics of discussion.
